Čiurlionis is reborn in Plungė

Virtual reality experiences that have captivated the whole of Lithuania have arrived in Plungė. From 23 April, visitors to the Samogitian Museum of Art can immerse themselves in the magical world of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis through two immersive experiences: ‘Trail of Angels’ and ‘Creation of the Worlds’.

After a very successful #PoLietuvą tour, which visited more than 70 locations across the country, these immersive experiences have finally reached Plungė. The organisers are delighted to be able to offer visitors a longer introduction to the art of virtual reality – the experiences will be open until the beginning of summer.

“The Trail of Angels has already become a kind of calling card for the project, with visitors often mentioning the calmness, concentration and inner harmony they experience. The Creation of the Worlds, on the other hand, offers a more intense relationship with art: here the viewer becomes an active participant in the creative process.

“In Plunge, one can strongly feel the presence of M. K. Čiurlionis and the traces he left here. We are happy that the VR experience will allow us to experience his work, depth and thoughts again. Čiurlionis has always been and will always be welcomed and warmly received in Plungė,” said Robertas Šimkus, Director of the Samogitian Art Museum.

New for visitors

This year’s visit to Plungė is special, with a special introductory biographical story “The Viewer’s Journey”. It is an educational narrative that helps visitors to understand the symbols of M. K. Čiurlionis, to understand his philosophy and emotional context. Such preparation allows the experience to be experienced in a much deeper and more personal way.

Austėja Staniulevičiūtė, the project manager, is delighted that, after many years of planning, the experience has finally reached the people of Plungė:

“I believe that it is important to see these experiences, both for those who are still preparing for their first encounter with the work of M. K. Čiurlionis, and for those who have already experienced it and want to come back again.”

“The Museum of Samogitian Art is an open space for various creative, artistic and musical projects. The variety and versatility of our spaces make us comfortable and attractive for various forms, so it is great that the experiences created with the help of new technologies are perfectly integrated into the magical atmosphere of the Duke M. Oginski Palace,” said R. Šimkus.

Virtual reality sessions at the Samogitian Museum of Art will take place from 23 April to 31 May. Tickets for the screenings can be purchased here.
