Čiurlionis comes alive again in Alytus

Alytus has opened the doors to one of the most spectacular cultural experiences of recent years – the virtual reality journeys “Trail of Angels” and “Creation of the Worlds”. From 19 March to 19 April, visitors to the Alytus Cultural Centre are invited to embark on a journey through the worlds of Mikolaj Konstantinas Čiurlionis, where art, sound and technology converge.

The experience has already left a strong impression on the Alytus community. Aušra Saulevičiūtė, the director of the Alytus Green Choir, doesn’t hide the fact that the experience has left a strong impression.

“This is a work of genius, of indescribable beauty. For me, this is the most beautiful journey I have ever been on. I won’t hide it – tears came down,” she shared her emotions.

Both experiences allow us to get to know a famous artist in a different way – not only to observe his work, but also to be present in it. More than half a million people in Lithuania and abroad have already experienced the Trail of Angels. Visitors often speak of the inner peace, concentration and even emotional turmoil that this journey through the artist’s emblematic paintings brings.

Creation of the Worlds, on the other hand, invites the viewer to embark on an even more active journey, where the viewer becomes a participant, able to interact with the environment. More than 150,000 people have already tried this experience, it has been presented in dozens of Lithuanian cities and has received international acclaim.

New for visitors

According to Lukas Verpetinskas, the project’s development producer, Čiurlionis’ work is discovering new audiences through technology.

“It is very gratifying that the work of M. K. Čiurlionis touches people so deeply. And what is even more fun is that even foreigners who are less familiar with Čiurlioni’s work experience very similar emotions.”

This year, visitors will also be treated to an innovation – a short introductory film will be shown before the virtual experience to help them better understand the context of M. K. Čiurlionis’s work and to get even more involved in the experience.

The organisers stress that the aim of these projects is to make art accessible to as many people as possible. Therefore, both those who are just discovering M. K. Čiurlionis and those who have already experienced it and want to come back again are welcome.

Virtual reality experiences will be open in Alytus until 19 April. The number of places is limited, so visitors are encouraged to book their tickets in advance.
