According to the creators Kristina Buožytė and Vitalius Žukas, their short animated virtual reality (VR) film is “a tribute to the pioneer of multimedia art and one of the greatest pioneers of abstract art in Europe, M.K. Čiurlionis, who broke down the boundaries between different art forms to create a new world based on his cosmology”.
As well as wowing audiences at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, the project won the prestigious Lumen Prize for Art and Technology in the UK in 2019. In 2020, the Silver Cranes won the Professional Excellence Award.
The filmmakers have subtly and tastefully recreated 60 paintings in virtual reality. The symphonic poem “TheForest” is heard, followed by “TheSea“, and details from the famous paintings “Peace“, “Sun Salutation”, “Eternity” and others.
